What is the differencebetween kW and kVa?
The main difference between kW (kilowatt) and kVA (kilovolt-ampere) underlies in the power factor.  kW is the unit of the actual power and kVA unit represents apparent power. The power factor is typically 0.8 unless specified. However, the kVA value will always be higher than the value for kW.  Hence, the kW rating is primarily the resultant power output that a generator can supply based on the horsepower of an engine and kW is calculated as per the horsepower rating of the engine.
What does an AutomaticTransfer Switch do?
An automatic transfer switch (ATS) redirects power from the standard source (utility) to the emergency power (generator) during the time of power failure of the standard source. Automatic Transfer Switch identifies the power interruption on the line and in turn sends the signals to the engine panel to start. During the time of the restoration of the normal power, the ATS transfers the power back to the standard source and shuts the generator down. In this, the standard source and the emergency power are in sync.
